Braintree disbursement / settlement batch report

Braintree's record of which settled transactions were paid out in a given bank disbursement. People reconcile it by transaction date and by summing across merchant accounts, both are wrong.

The shape, how the file is really laid out

Transaction-grain export with Transaction ID, Merchant Account ID, Status,

Type (sale/credit), Amount, Currency, Settlement Amount, Settlement Currency,

Service Fee Amount (marketplace sub-merchant cases), Disbursement Date and, for

refunds/chargebacks, a reference to the original transaction. Status drives

everything: only "settled" (and later) transactions enter a disbursement, authorized, submitted_for_settlement and voided ones do not. A single gateway

commonly holds MULTIPLE Merchant Account IDs, each in its OWN currency and each

disbursing separately, so one file interleaves independent payout streams.

Amount is the presentment amount; Settlement Amount is in the settlement

currency, and they diverge when the two currencies differ.

The traps

Merchant-account mixing: summing Amount across Merchant Account IDs sums across currencies and across separate disbursements, group by Merchant Account ID first.
